Update on The Private Parking Code of Practice Act

Government to reconsider relevant provisions of the Private Parking Code of Practice.

Following the recent initiation of Judicial Reviews by parking operators, The Secretary of State has withdrawn the decisions on parking charges and debt recovery fees and will reconsider the relevant provisions of the Private Parking Code of Practice in light of a further consultation and impact assessment once they have been completed.

The BPA continues to work with Government officials and lobby MPs as they consider the new single code. As part of the Code implementation group, we aim to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible whilst the terms of reference for the Scrutiny and Oversight Board are agreed upon.

Andrew Pester, BPA Chief Executive said, “We welcome the Parking (Code of Practice) Act and measures to introduce a single code, standards-setting body, and an independent appeals service. However, for this package of measures to be sustainable, there needs to be an effective deterrent to encourage compliance with parking rules and deter anti-social parking. Without effective parking management, places would become congested and inaccessible.”

While recent updates and the current Government structural changes create more uncertainty and questions, we are  keeping members updated as we gather further intelligence to inform our next steps.

BPA members can Register for our general update webinar on 28 July where we will also be discussing the introduction of the Complaints Clauses and also watch recordings of all previous webinars on our website.
