University of Southampton awarded a Park Mark accreditation

The award signals a sustained commitment to the highest safety standards in their parking operations.

University of Southampton have recently achieved a Park Mark accreditation on one of their car parks as part of the Safer Parking Scheme. Managed by the BPA on behalf of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives, the SPS requires each car park to undergo a rigorous assessment by specially trained police assessors. Assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, taking into consideration surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness. Car parks accredited under the scheme are awarded the Park Mark® certification, indicating they meet the highest standards of safety and security.

These requirements mean the parking operator has put in place measures that help to deter criminal activity and anti-social behaviour, thereby doing everything they can to prevent crime and reduce the fear of crime in their parking facilities.

Nick Povey – Head of Security said “At the University of Southampton we are extremely proud to have achieved this accreditation, not only does it recognize all of the hard work the Estates team has put into improving the car parking infrastructure, but it demonstrates to our students, staff and visitors that as an organization we are committed to maintaining a safe and secure parking environment. The assessment process was thoroughly engaging and highlighted areas of potential future improvement, which have informed our plans for future improvements”

Warren Bradshaw – BPA Area Manager said “It has been a great pleasure for me to have worked with the Nick and his team on this journey towards achieving the Park Mark accreditation, well done and well deserved”
