Park Mark award for the Upper Street car park in north London

The Upper Street car park, located in Islington, north London, has once again demonstrated the highest standards in management and parking operations

Following a recent site reassessment survey by the BPA and the Metropolitan Police, the Upper Street car park, which is adjacent to the Business Design Centre in Islington, has once again achieved the prestigious Park Mark accreditation. This is an impressive achievement and recognises that the Upper Street parking facilities have measures in place that actively deter crime and the fear of crime – the administration of their site is key to this, with regular patrols and excellent management.

Park Mark® is the accredited logo of the Safer Parking Scheme. It is given to parking facilities that have achieved the requirements of a risk assessment conducted by the Police and the British Parking Association. Their assessments include management and maintenance of the facility, checking that there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage, and cleanliness. All these are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and thus create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle.

Car parks with a Park Mark® can use signage featuring the distinctive Park Mark® tick so that drivers know exactly where to go for safe parking. Facilities that have received this award have seen a drop-in vehicle-related crime of over 80%.

Luke Hurst, Operations Director, said: “We are delighted to receive the accreditation once again from Park Mark. Antony and the team have always been a delight to work with. We take safety extremely seriously and it is with great pride that we are acknowledged for meeting their requirements.”

Antony Powell - BPA Area Manager said: “The recent Park Mark award reaccreditation of the Upper Street car park in Islington, north London, is thoroughly deserved. The parking facilities are excellent. Very well done to Luke Hurst, the Operations Director and all the members of his team who are involved in the good management and operation of these facilities. This award demonstrates Upper Street management team`s commitment to the principles of the Park Mark award initiative.”
