Cambridge City Council’s Park Street car park achieves UK first with Park Access EV award
The landmark achievement recognises that both its car park and EV chargers are accessible for all users, an important step forward in accessibility in parking.
Park Street car park managed by Cambridge City Council is the first UK accessible parking facility to be awarded the Park Access EV award. This is a landmark achievement as it not only recognises that its parking facilities have high quality measures in place to ensure accessibility for users but also for users needing electric vehicle charging.
As the Government consults on bringing forward a mandate to sell only electric vehicles from 2030 it is vital that the charging infrastructure in the UK is accessible for all car drivers. For this reason, Park Access EV assesses car parks in line with PAS 1899, an industry recognised standard for accessible charge points.
Park Street car and cycle park opened last November and has two accessible EV charging spaces among sixteen Blue Badge parking spaces – this is out of 222 underground parking spaces, of which twenty-six are active EV charging spaces, with more set up to take on the same role as demand grows.
Colin Sproats, BPA Eastern Area Manager said: “I couldn’t be happier that Cambridge City Council have achieved the Park Access EV award, demonstrating their hard work and commitment to provide accessible facilities for all drivers. They have always been huge supporters of the Park Mark Scheme and attaining this Park Access EV award is a fantastic achievement.”
Graham Footer of Disabled Motoring UK said: “Disabled Motoring UK congratulates Cambridge City Council on achieving the Park Access EV Accreditation for their Park Street Car Park. It is heartening to see that Cambridge City Council continues to be committed to providing accessible parking and accessible charging in their car parks. We hope to see many more car parks aspire to this standard right across the country, for the benefit of disabled motorists everywhere.”
