BPA chooses Motor Neurone Disease Association as New Charity Partner

The British Parking Association (BPA) is proud to announce that its members have voted to support the Motor Neurone Disease Association as its new official charity partner. This decision reflects the collective commitment of BPA members to making a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by motor neurone disease (MND), a progressive and ultimately fatal condition that affects the brain and nerves. The MND Association provides essential care, research funding, and advocacy for individuals living with MND and their families across the UK.

Dave Smith, BPA Head of Marketing and Events, said: "We are honoured to begin this new partnership with the MND Association. The BPA community is passionate about using its voice and resources for positive impact, and we believe our collaboration with the Association will help raise crucial awareness and funds for a cause that touches so many lives."

Throughout the partnership, the BPA community will work closely with the Association to organise fundraising campaigns, events, and awareness initiatives across the parking and mobility services sector. The charity was selected following a member vote, with the Association receiving the highest level of support among shortlisted organisations.

Libby Hannelle, Relationship Fundraiser at the MND Association, added: "We’re thrilled to be chosen as the BPA’s charity partner. With their support, we can continue to push forward our mission to improve care, fund research, and campaign for those living with MND. This partnership will help bring us closer to a world free from MND."

The BPA would like to thank all members who participated in the vote and looks forward to a successful and impactful partnership with the Association.

About motor neurone disease (MND):

  • MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord.
  • It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work. MND does not usually affect the senses such as sight, sound, feeling etc.
  • It can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe.
  • Over 80% of people with MND experience changes to their speech, which may become slurred or quieter. Some people lose their ability to speak entirely.
  • It affects people from all communities.
  • Around 50% of people with MND experience some form of cognitive change while living with the disease. This can affect their thinking or behaviour. This percentage rises to around 80% for people who are in advanced stages of the disease.
  • It kills a third of people within a year and more than half within two years of diagnosis.
  • A person’s lifetime risk of developing MND is around 1 in 300.
  • Six people per day are diagnosed with MND in the UK.
  • It affects more than 5,000 adults in the UK at any one time.
  • It kills six people per day in the UK, this is just under 2,200 per year.
  • It has no cure.

The MND Association has made five ambitious Promises to people affected by motor neurone disease.

We won’t rest until:

  • MND is treatable and ultimately curable
  • Everyone gets the care they need when they need it
  • Every day with MND counts
  • You are heard
  • No one faces MND alone
